RE-POST: Mother’s Day is fast approaching in the US and Australia, being the second Sunday in May, otherwise known as Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday in Lent (usually around March) for our British and Europeans friends.
Here are some ideas for celebrating motherhood…
In my family, we make a big deal of it, with a lazy morning with the whole family crammed into Mum and Dad’s bed, a fancy breakfast which always includes croissants, waffles, jam and fruit, and if the weather’s fine, a picnic in the nearby National Park.
And, like most other celebration days, we start the day with presents.
Scented candles
Nothing makes a home luscious like a pretty scent filling the rooms. Diptyque has a range of candles with beautiful scents, each one fruity, floral, herbal, spicy or woody.

Scented moisturiser
There’s just something about using a scented moisturiser that makes you pause for a moment and appreciate the finer things in life.
Make you mum feel a bit pampered with L’Occitane’s Hand Cream Trio Gift Set or Aesop’s beautiful Primrose Facial Hydrating Cream.

Pyjamas
One of the hardest things about Mother’s Day is trying to convince her to stay in bed long enough to eat the breakfast you’ve prepared!
Give her a bit of encouragement with one of these adorable pyjama sets by Deshabille and J by Jasper Conran.

Books
Giving a book is a great way to connect with your mum. You can share the reading and bond over the discussion.
Kathryn Stockett’s novel The Help and Hugh Mackay’s reflection on The Good Life are both books made for sharing and discussion.
Jewellery
It’s an oldie but a goodie! A great way to show you care about your mum – and pay attention to her sense of style – is through a carefully selected piece of jewellery.
Whether you aim for something she might wear often, like these chunky beads from DECJUBA, or on special occasions, like this delicate chain from Boticca, a piece of jewellery is a great way to show your mum that yes, you are listening when you go quiet on the phone!
