Well Luscious Lifers, after many, many years of external dramas, Mr Luscious and I were finally free to marry on Friday March 4, 2016…
The ceremony and dinner
We had a parents-only registry office ceremony in Melbourne’s historic Treasury Building with just our parents and surrogate parents, so it was a party of seven. We hope to have a larger family and friends event in a year or two once we can afford it.
It was a simple affair followed by dinner at The French Brasserie a block away, and we stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne the night before and after (which I’d booked ahead, grabbing a great deal with bonus frequent flyer points). My thanks to everyone who looked after us and all locations.
We also had a delicious pre-wedding dinner with our semi-adopted son Nikolai and his girlfriend Jemma at Cecconi’s on Flinders Lane the night before, plus I got to have a quick champagne with one of my best girlfriends too. Thanks Ms Koh!
The photography
The professional photos were taken by the brilliant Kate and Marco Marroni – see more from them here (lifestyle) and here (wedding). As this was the one job Mr Luscious was tasked to do, the fact that he left it until four days before gave me many sleepless nights.
But Kate and Marco not only came to the rescue, they gave us an incredibly affordable price, a selection of over 300 images, and a wonderful time of it. They were so professional as well as being lovely people – I almost want to create some events so we can use them again.
Please do consider using them if you need any photography done.
The outfit
I tried to keep things as budget-friendly as possible, possibly adding up to about $300 for the whole look. Here are the details:
- DRESS: ASOS Midi dress (was $85, now just $51!)
- BRA: White U-plunge bra from eBay
- SHOES: Pinup Couture Cutiepie white Rockabilly pumps (I got both size 7 and 8 because they didn’t have a 7.5) and I used this wooden shoe stretcher to make the size 7 shoe bigger
- FASCINATOR: Cartazi feather veil fascinator from ASOS which my mother and I modified to remove the headband and add extra flowers and clips to keep it all in place
- HANDBAG: White faux Birkin from eBay
- NECKLACE: Multiple faux pearl strands from eBay
- PEARL BROOCH AND BRACELET: On loan from my mother
- PERFUME: Chanel No. 5 (of course)
I also bought two white cardigans from ASOS and Modcloth in case it got cold (I couldn’t decide on just one and they were cheap) but it was a super hot 38 degrees that day and didn’t need either.
I did my hair and makeup from my normal collection of bits and pieces, and wore my favourite ruby red Natio lipstick ($14.95).
The flowers and the cake
I did all the flowers myself, which is a first. I was relieved that they turned out so well!
Thanks to some YouTube research, advance floral supply purchases on eBay, about $300 and driving around to visit about 6 florists in Melbourne armed with two buckets the day before, I created:
- a bouquet for myself using fluffy, white flowers including roses, chrysanthemums and hydrangeas
- three smaller bouquets for our mothers using pink flowers such as roses and dahlias
- one white buttonhole for Mr Luscious
- two pink buttonholes for the fathers
- and two pink vases for the dining table.
My generous parents organised the cake which was exactly what I’d designed. We cut the cake using a silver Vera Wang for Wedgwood knife which our friend Jenny had given us as a gift previously.
And I bought these white glossy cardboard gift boxes and added my own ribbons to enable some pieces of cake to be taken home.
The honeymoon
We headed off early on the Saturday for our mini honeymoon to Bendigo (see the post here) and will be flying off on THE BEST HONEYMOON EVER next week to Dubai, France, Switzerland and Italy.
We’re able to fly business (1 leg of the journey) and first class (3 legs) after years of carefully hoarding frequent flyer points – it’s hard to believe it’s finally happening!
Thank you
Thanks to everyone who has supported us during the trying times of the last 13 years. Our mental and physical health was affected by issues seemingly beyond our control but eventually we made it to this moment. I can’t tell you how relieved I am that we got here.
At all times, Mr Luscious has been amazing and I can’t believe how lucky we are to have found each other.
Natasha xx
